The Uganda Education Project aims to alleviate poverty and cultivate young leaders in the Mukono District of Uganda by sponsoring vulnerable children to complete secondary school and university. We partner closely with a local, grassroots organization focused on improving lives within the Mukono community.
Many children in Mukono drop out of school when a significant event, such as the death of a parent, makes education unaffordable. We identify youth who are most in need of support. Scholars receive tuition, school uniforms, books, nutritious meals, HIV prevention education, and counseling on an ongoing basis.
The aim of our project is to eliminate the financial barrier of education to ensure vulnerable youth have an equal opportunity to a fair start in life. Through education, we hope to break the cycle of poverty, inequality and HIV, and enable a brighter future for our students. In addition to tuition, we provide basic health care, counseling, and career training for scholars.
Education will empower our students to be leaders in their community, provide critical skills for employment, and break the cycle of poverty. We also emphasize the importance of community involvement, and scholarship recipients are encouraged to give back to their community.
