Harini was homeless, living on the outskirts of society, and constantly struggling to support her family. Her husband is a daily worker, so income is never guaranteed and scarce.
It all started with chickens…
Through our partners outreach program, they met Harini and she saught the opportunity to earn a living through agricultural farming with a community of 15 other women. Her first task was looking after animals; chickens first and then goats. From this, her life began to change drastically. After receiving seasonal and off-season farming training, she developed the skills necessary to farm and cultivate vegetables to sell.
Harini is well known for growing a fine array of produce and is famous for her ginger and turmeric! Thanks to her new income Harini found a home for her family and with her new skills can grow her own food in their garden, meaning the children will never go hungry again.
Along with this rise in economic status, the women involved with the project, like Harini, are taught about their rights within the legal system and given confidence classes to enrich their self-belief and value within society.
Because of the huge success of this project, there are talks about extending the land they farm on and engaging with more women to transform their lives through farming.
You are generously providing the essential income so projects like this one continue to be funded and touch the lives of many women that without it, would be lost.
Thank you.
