Sunita, a 40-year-old resident of Ratna Nagar, Chitwan, embarked on a transformative journey when she joined a Karuna-funded agricultural project. She was introduced to the project by community women and quickly became involved, driven by the desire to improve her family’s poor economic condition. At the time, her husband’s small daily wage from a local shop was their only source of income.
Sunita took a significant step by participating in the project’s agricultural skill development training. She learned to cultivate ginger and turmeric, which are staples in both rural and urban households. Her involvement in a women’s group also provided her with a supportive network and additional resources. Through the project, Sunita discovered a newfound motivation and began using her afternoons and committed to developing her skills.
The impact of the project on Sunita’s life has been profound. She has become self-reliant, managing her agricultural activities and producing a profitable yield of ginger and turmeric. This success has not only improved her family’s economic status but also boosted her personal confidence. Sunita’s transformation is evident in her community standing, where she is now recognized and respected.
Today, Sunita’s situation is markedly different. She has become more organized and well-managed, understanding the value of time, money, and energy. Her family’s living conditions have improved, and they enjoy a better economic status. Sunita no longer relies solely on her husband’s income; she contributes significantly through her own earnings.
Looking to the future, Sunita aspires to lease more land and diversify her crops, aiming to establish herself as a professional farmer. Her story is a testament to the positive change that can be achieved through skill development and economic empowerment, and it serves as an inspiration for the continued efforts of Karuna Trust in community development and empowerment. Sunita’s journey from economic hardship to self-sufficiency exemplifies the impact of the Trust’s initiatives, making her story one of many that inspire a commitment to community development and empowerment.
Thanks to your support more women like Sunita can become independent.
