In partnership with REED Nepal, Karuna is supporting 450 teachers from Kanchan and Rambha in the Rupandehi district of Nepal, to improve the quality of education for over 10,000 children.
REED Nepal works alongside teachers and offers a ten-day training programme on materials development and effective application. The teachers from various schools learned how to create and use low-cost, locally available resources to make their classrooms more engaging and child-friendly. The training also covered topics such as classroom management, teaching strategies, and assembly organisation.
Many children in rural areas of Nepal lack access to quality education, especially those who are excluded from society, such as Dalits. The COVID-19 pandemic has further exacerbated the situation, disrupting the education system and affecting millions of children. As well as this, many teachers in rural areas are underqualified, underpaid, and lack adequate training and support to deliver effective and inclusive education.
Karuna believes that every child deserves a quality education that enables them to fulfil their potential and become a leading example of change to their peers and community. That is why we are working with REED Nepal, a local NGO that has been providing teacher training and school support in Nepal for over 20 years.
The LC project is expected to have a lasting impact on the quality of education in the areas they are working in. By improving the skills and confidence of teachers, the project will enhance the learning environment and outcomes for children, especially those who are experiencing marginalisation. The project will also foster a culture of collaboration and innovation among teachers, schools, and local authorities, creating a network of learning communities that can share best practices and resources. The project also plans to raise awareness of the importance of education amongst the families of the children, to promote longevity and implement sustainable change.
Thanks to your support more children from remote rural areas, who are discriminated against have access to school and can receive the materials necessary to complete their education.
Thank you!
