Maliha is thriving thanks to you!

By Soph Stephens | Digital Fundraiser

Maliha is 37 and lives near Tikauli Jungle in Tratna Nagar, Nepal. Every morning she goes out to collect firewood to sell in her village and every afternoon she works as a labourer in the nearby fields. Both jobs are labour-intensive and do not provide enough income to support her family. Her husband is unemployed, so this small amount supports a large family, including her elderly parents, 1 son and 5 daughters. In her community, having this many daughters is seen as a curse, so she feels alone in her venture to provide for her family.

Fortunately, Maliha came across one of our women’s support groups, connecting her with women just like herself. Once she started to attend, she soon received livelihood training, learning to farm vegetables and fruit to sell as part of their own independent business!

Eventually, Maliha received 50,000 NPR in seed money and began her own business. The training also supported her to develop leadership skills, as well as how to save money to invest more in the business. Maliha now receives a stable income from her vegetable business and finally feels like she is part of a network of women, where she can express herself and feel heard in both her struggles and successes.

Thanks to your support, women like Maliha are becoming entrepreneurs and thriving in their communities.
