Summary

The project will educate and enforce social distancing guidelines and use of personal protection equipment in markets and parks in Karu LGA of Nasarawa State. Markets and Motor Parks are overcrowded and no physical distancing, no face masks wearing, no hand washing points in the entry and exit point. We will enforce adherance to covid-19 prevention protocol in this places, distribute face mask, soaps, hand gloves, sanitizers and setting-up handwashing facilities in 50 markets and parks

Challenge

There is still immense mass gathering in markets and Motor Parks in Karu LGA of Nasarawa State situated in North Central Nigeria. This Mass gathering is very dangerous as it can aid the spread of Covid-19. There is no adherence to covid-19 prevention protocols such as social distancing, use of face mask, hand gloves, washing points with running water and soap, sanitizers, etc. This project will enforce compliance to the covid-19 prevention protocols, distribute PPE and educate the people.

Solution

This project with the cooperation of relevant stake-holders such as the police, local government council, community leaders, civil defence corps, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, National Road Transport Workers Union (NURTWU), market women leaders in Karu, enforce compliance to the covid-19 prevention protocols in markets and parks, give-out PPE palliative such as face mask, hand gloves, set-up hand washing points in markets and parks, draw social distance points and set enlightenment booths

Long-Term Impact

The project will educate 5000 women allowing them to rise out of poor hygiene condition in their place of business and homes and equiped with adequate knowlegde and tools to protect themselves and their families from covid-19 pandemic. 50 women and 30 men will be formed as Hygiene and Sanitation facilitators which will be selected from some markets and motor parks in Karu LGA and trained to conduct hygiene awareness campaigns tailored towards COVID-19 prevention and cleanliness after covid era
