In the city of Cuenca, Ecuador, Fundacion Nur breaks the cycle of poverty of vulnerable families by training parents and children through a specific quarterly emergency plan for this crisis COVID/Economic. It provides food for 25 families, attends to 30 children in its children's program, and trains and advises 20 adults so that they can start producing with the objective of self-sustainability, figures only limited by lack of own resources.
Huge sectors of the population are facing hunger and desperation, the COVID crisis boosted the economic crisis, those who barely survived before now have no help to do so. Lack of work, lack of food, eviction from rented housing, constant anguish. We see daily in their children the terrible consequences of this situation. We have fed up to 1128 families in the past 28 weeks, and we are currently focusing on reinserting heads of families into starting a small business.
Our quarterly shock plan challenges and encourages these families to take charge of their destiny. While we reduce their desperation over the lack of food, we guide them to put together a short and medium term life plan, train them with educational workshops, show them their hidden skills and how to use them, and help them find the materials and tools they need to start producing. At the same time, we provide their children, through virtual playful tools.
With our methodology each group of families that we manage to get out of their critical situation collaborates with the next one. A quarterly cycle. Each recovered family multiplies the help received, a minimal collaboration sets in motion the wheel of solidarity and generates multiple changes. Each child who grows up without fear and without hunger is the seed of a new society. The courses of orientation and responsible family planning, plus the one on personal finances assures future stability
