This project will provide critical food, medication, sanitation and menstrual hygiene supplies to children and women with disabilities in 3 urban slums (Kibera, Kawangware & Mathare) in Nairobi, Kenya. We aim to reach 300 families that have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. To support the livelihoods that have been affected by the pandemic & build their resilience, we will provide microgrants to sustain their small businesses
Children and women disabilities living in informal settlements have been adversely affected COVID-19. It has not only led to an economic crunch nationally but also at household level since 80% of Nairobi's populace is dependent on daily earnings. Families in low income communities are particularly hard hit as they are experiencing challenges in meet their basic needs. With reduced income, they have limited ability to purchase food items,menstrual hygiene, medication and mobility devices.
Our COVID-19 response will target at risk families and individuals in our Health and Wellbeing, Inclusive Education and Women and Girl Empowerment Program. We have mapped out 300 families and individuals in Kibera, Kawangware and Mathare informal settlements that will benefit from the food and sanitation supplies provisions. This will include 255 Children with Disabilities and their families and 45 vulnerable women and girls.
Our efforts will support 300 families of children with disabilities and women with disabilities to navigate through the challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic with dignity as well as build their resilience through livelihood support
