Pregnancy is a wonderful time, the hope and excitement of what is to come and the anticipation of bringing home your bundle of joy.
However, some babies are admitted to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. When I recently started supporting a mum whose baby was born at 26 weeks, she was understandably overwhelmed with the situation. She wondered what was going to happen next and how was she going to balance time at the hospital with looking after her one-year-old? She couldn't understand how others around her seemed so together whilst she felt emotional and tearful all the time.
I will provide emotional support to mum for as long as she needs it. I’m someone she can talk to about what she’s going through. I look after her one-year-old, so mum is able to have some quality time with her baby where she can have a cuddle. I play with the child in the playroom or go to the park.
There have been a number of ups and downs so far - when it seems that baby is progressing well, there is suddenly another unexpected situation to be faced, the unpredictability is a huge challenge. I offer stability to Mum through these times by ensuring that I visit consistently and I am there for her when she needs me.
Every donation you make to Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity will support families, for whom the simple things make a huge difference for the whole family. Thank you.
