Dignity Kit Distribution for Adolescent Girls

Dignity kits support

Hope for Street Children and Vulnerable People Foundation (HOPLE Org) successfully conducted a dignity kit distribution in the Yusufari community, with a 100% focus on adolescent girls, aimed at promoting menstrual health, dignity, and protection. The intervention responded to the urgent needs of girls living in underserved, climate-affected, and education-poor communities.

Beneficiaries Reached

  • 30 adolescent girls (primary focus)

  • 20 vulnerable women
    Total beneficiaries: 50

The dignity kits were provided with support from UNFPA, while GlobalGiving–raised funds were used to cover:

  • Transportation and logistics of kits to hard-to-reach communities

  • Printing of IEC and beneficiary materials

  • Provision of drinking water for beneficiaries during distribution

  • Field coordination and operational support

Impact

  • Improved access to menstrual hygiene supplies for adolescent girls

  • Reduced stigma and vulnerability linked to menstruation

  • Strengthened trust and engagement with adolescent girls and caregivers

  • Reinforced HOPLE’s long-term commitment to girls’ education and protection in Yusufari

Challenges & Gaps Identified

Despite this success, critical gaps remain:

  • Education support gap:
Over three years ago, HOPLE enrolled several out-of-school children back into school in the Jebuwa community. Due to limited resources, we are currently unable to provide scholastic materials, placing these children—especially adolescent girls—at high risk of dropping out again.

  • Caregiver vulnerability:
Many households in Jebuwa Ward are female-headed, affected by poverty, displacement, and climate shocks. We could not mobilise enough resources to support caregivers with basic livelihood or protection assistance.

  • Systemic exclusion:
Jebuwa Ward has over 50 communities with no existing primary school, leaving children and adolescents extremely vulnerable to illiteracy, early marriage, exploitation, and displacement.

  • High unmet needs:
There is a significant gap in support for adolescent girls, IDPs, and school-enrolled children, particularly in dignity, education, WASH, and protection services.

Call to Action

This intervention highlights both what is possible with targeted support and how much more is urgently needed. Investment in:

  • Adolescent girls’ dignity and menstrual health

  • Education materials for enrolled children

  • Support for female-headed households

  • Integrated protection and education services in Jebuwa Ward

will directly change life trajectories in one of Yobe State’s most underserved areas.

HOPLE Org remains committed to ensuring that no girl is left behind because of poverty, geography, or gender — but we cannot do it alone.
