Summary

This project supports young adults aging out of South Korea's social welfare system by providing financial help for job searches, relocation, and access to education. KKOOM offers college and vocational scholarships in Korea and recently launched a U.S. College Scholarship Program, giving students greater academic and career opportunities as they transition to independent adulthood.

Challenge

When young adults in Korea age out of children's homes at 18 (or up to 22 in some cases), they must leave the only home they have known and support themselves with very little financial or social assistance. Many struggle to afford job-search expenses, basic living costs, or continued education. Without support at this critical transition point, these young adults face significant barriers to securing stable jobs, housing, and long-term independence.

Solution

KKOOM provides supplemental funding to young adults aging out of children's homes on a case-by-case basis. Each recipient submits a clear plan for how the support will be used and provides regular updates on their personal and professional progress. Alongside financial assistance, KKOOM maintains ongoing communication, offering mentorship and guidance as these young adults navigate independent living and build their futures.

Long-Term Impact

We have already helped over 20 young adults aging out of children's homes begin independent lives. Over time, this project will support even more youth as they transition into adulthood and reduce their long-term risk of poverty, unemployment, and housing insecurity.
