HPM aims to target 1000 refugee school going girls aged 11-18 years living in Adjumani district in overcoming the social barriers to education associated with menstruation. They will be given right information on personal hygiene during menstruation, supply of sanitary kits, and sensitizing parents on how to mentor their girls during the adolescent period. The support will give them chance to develop sense of self dignity and confidence to be in school that will directly solve their problems.
Due to lack of adequate knowledge, funds to purchase sanitary kits, shame and fear resulting from cultural taboos, lack of privacy, stigma, genital tract infections during menstruation periods made the refugee girls not to attend classes regularly leading to poor performances in schools, pregnancies, and early marriages.
Our priority is to educate the school going girls with the best practices of menstrual hygiene, sexual and reproductive system through workshops and seminars providing them with training materials. We will also distribute sanitary kits to encourage the refugee girls aged 11 - 18 years in attending classes regularly and finally engage their parents, schools and specialist increase awareness.
Our overall target is to provide sanitary kits and decrease school drop out rate from refugee girls aged 11 - 18 years. Increase the knowledge and awareness on menstrual hygiene and get rid of fear and shame from the girls in schools.
