Our current number of children are 20 boys and 18 girls, we are very happy with the progress of the children at the centre, we do find that behaviour challenges do surface and our child and youth care workers have attended training with the Parent Centre to strenghten their skills in dealing with behaviour challenges.
Our children are also benefiting from the Jerry Giraffe child abuse program and they love the story line of Jerry. We are teaching the children about rules and regulations within the home structure as they are aware of rules within the class room structure. Our children love to be rewarded and to work for rewards, we have a discipline chart on the wall and it is good to hear and see how they encourage each other to work for their gold stars. Rewards can be a little snack, or a treat or an outing to the stadium which they all love.
We are in the process of setting up a homework corner for all of our children to encourage the learner who seems to be struggling with school work. This will be monitored very closely and we are drawing in as many resources as we can to assist with the learner who is struggling.
The centre recently experienced the sad loss of one of our babies, it was a very emotional experience for all of us and our staff have been counselled. Despite the sadness of losing one child we are able to give the rest of the children the best love, care, support and education that they deserve. Our children are focused on exams at the moment and we trust that they will all do well. Our pre-schoolers we have one child that will be graduating and the rest will move to Grade R we are so proud of our children and they bring so much joy into our home.
