As the saying goes time flies - here we are reporting for the past three months. Such a blessing as we watch and experience development and growth.
Our current number of children at the home are 37 consisting of 18 girls and 19 boys aged birth to 11 years.
The current health of our children is good as we have the priviledge of a Volunteer Doctor who takes care of the medical needs of the children.
In consultation with Dr Jenny and the Head of the Health Unit at Red Cross Children’s hospital we will be affording the opportunity to three Staff to be trained as health care workers to assist the children with their day-to-day monitoring and administering of medication. We are very excited for this development, and we do thank our donors for this. This will start from the month of September.
Milestones are being monitored very carefully and assessments are being done to ensure that our children are referred to the professionals in the field. Example Occupational therapy, speech therapist, anger management and behaviour. We do acknowledge that certain areas are out of our reach and we need to make plans to improve what we observe.
Jerry has been very helpful with introduction around behaviour and addressing behaviour taking place at the facility. Our older child is feeling the pressure of being surrounded by the younger ones so he is taking advantage and the children have now decided to group together and stand up for their rights against him. It is very interesting to observe how they communicate with each other and how quickly behaviour can be corrected and resolved. Using the talking flower does assist in a big way as each one is offered an opportunity to speak.
We are very proud of our young children as they share stories at school about the Jerry program.
The children have been taken out in groups of 10 over the past month of August to visit donors and we are extremely proud of their behaviour, the way that they engaged and interacted, and we have seen this positive turn around due to the ongoing sessions with Jerry. Identify who is a stranger, who it is Ok to deal with and how the children move and develop into communicating with others. This was done in preparation for the new way of doing things with our children. Taking them to visit and meet other people.
On behalf of our young beneficiaries we say thank you for your contribution and for enabling the Organisation to touch these young lives and invest in their growth and getting them to shine every day. THANK YOU
