Empowering Parents, Supporting Children

Parents and children at the June workshop
Parents and children at the June workshop

Following the successful delivery of the first Parent and Caregiver Disability Inclusion Workshop in June 2026, we were delighted to see the programme continue with a second five-session workshop at the Institute of Holistic Rehabilitation and Inclusion (IHRI) in Karachi in September. The June workshop brought together 30 parents and focused on practical skills including disability awareness, safe handling and positioning, activities of daily living, play-based learning, and family support and home-based management. Parents responded particularly positively to the practical approach, reporting increased confidence in supporting their children and requesting further follow-up training.

The September workshop built on this experience, giving parents another valuable opportunity to develop practical skills, share experiences and learn from one another. A further workshop is planned for October, as MAITS and IHRI continue to develop and refine this important parent-focused approach. We are also strengthening our monitoring and evaluation, with information being collected about participating families and baseline assessments being completed for each child. This will help us to understand the longer-term impact of the workshops and the difference they make to children and families.

This important work would not be possible without the generous support of our donors. Your support enables MAITS and our partners to equip parents with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence they need to support their children to thrive. Thank you for helping us reach more families and make a lasting difference to the lives of children with disabilities.
