Giving Sight to the Cataract Blind

Would you be my light?

Every day, I wake up in a dark world. When the sunbeams pierce through the curtains and touch my face, my eyes cringe up involuntarily and on not being able to see the bright sunny day, my heart aches. Then I gather some courage and try to dress up. When I reach by the mirror in my room, my eyes open up widely and start searching for my being. On being able to see nothing but darkness, out of helplessness, I start rubbing my eyes but it is never of any use. As I go out of the room with a heavy heart, my grandchild comes rushing towards me and I long to see his face. I long to see the mountains and lakes which flow by in the area that we live in. I long to see the rainbows and clouds and the other bounties bestowed upon by my Lord but I see nothing but darkness. I wish to cross the bridge from darkness to light. Would you be my eyes?

Above is the fate of 60% of the people who have lost their vision due to delayed or inadequate treatment of cataract (Pakistan Observer). Such cases need to be brought to a halt. Are you ready to play your role in preventing blindness among such a huge chunk of the population of Pakistan?

Cataract is a common cause of vision loss among the elderly. It especially happens to people after the age of fifty years. A large number of people suffering from this disease live in the remote and rural areas of Pakistan and they are usually unable to travel to the cities for their treatment. Even if they somehow travel to the cities for their cure, they are unable to afford the treatment. Hence, Fatima Memorial Hospital (FMH) which has the objective to endow healthcare to the underprivileged, strives to provide maximum assistance to them.

The indigent communities in the country are always provided with free or subsidized treatment by Fatima Memorial Hospital and it is especially for cataract that FMH provides 100% free treatment to as many patients as possible and plans to keep on doing so with the support of its esteemed donors.

As a result of cataract, approximately 570,000 adults are estimated to be blind (NCBI) and therefore, the inflow of patients who come to FMH for their treatment is rising day by day. Hence, FMH needs more and more donors to support its cause of providing free treatment for people suffering from cataract. The approximate cost of cataract surgery is USD 100.00 and FMH treated approximately 24 patients in the last month and many more are still in line.

We, at FMH, rely on the help of our generous donors who could support us in the endeavor to save the eyes of many. It is only with the donor’s help and support that FMH would continue to treat the rising number of patients of cataract. Hence, we urge you to join hands with us to support our cause and save the suffering beings from darkness.

Imagine your life without Eyes!

Imagine your life without eyes. Imagine waking up and not being able to see the rays of sun caressing your face. Imagine looking into the mirror and being able to see nothing but darkness. Imagine being never able to see those faces which make you feel that the struggles of life are worth it. Imagine never being able to see the majestic mountains which remind you of the power of your Lord. Imagine being never able to see the rainbows and butterflies, the sight of which make you praise your Creator. Imagine spending your life without one of the biggest bounties of life called: eyesight. It is really hard to even envision your life without your eyes. Hence, delayed or inadequate treatment of cataract which leads to a loss of vision in 60% (Pakistan Observer) of the blindness cases in the population of Pakistan need to be brought to a halt. Are you ready to play your role in preventing blindness among a large chunk of population of Pakistan?

Fatima Memorial Hospital has always worked towards providing free and subsidized treatment to the indigent communities in the country. For cataract, FMH provides 100% free treatment to as many patients as possible and plans to keep on doing so with the support of our esteemed donors.

Prayers made from the heart are said to touch the sky and if you help someone regain their eyesight, the prayers which come out of their hearts might even rise above the sky.

Treating Cataract

Fatima Memorial Hospital came into being with a goal to endow healthcare to the underprivileged and we have been striving ever since to ensure maximum assistance is provided.

Cataract-an eye disease that disturbs the vision leads to thousands of surgeries annually in Pakistan.

The disease which is a common cause of vision loss especially in old age is curable and the only cure for which according to the doctors is surgery. This disease can attack anybody after the age of fifty years.Approximately, 60% of all cases of blindness reported in local population are caused due to either delayed or inadequate intervention in treating cataract. Majority of the individuals suffering live in remote areas of the country and are unable to travel to cities where the majority of services are located.

This year during the month of Ramadan, Fatima Memorial Hospital took an initiative of providing 100% free cataract treatment to as many patients as possible. The hospital has always worked towards providing free and subsidized treatment to the indigent communities and continues to do so. Since there is a vast majority suffering from this disease, Fatima Memorial Hospital has extended its support to cure this disease by providing more and more free cataract surgeries for the poor. Approximate cost of the surgery is USD 100.00 and as mentioned above, there is a large majority patients suffering for which the hospital is dependent on its donors.

Donations from our generous donors makes us serve more and more people. The patient numbers are increasing every day and we do not want to break the chain.

Fatima Memorial Hospital will continue to treat as many patients as it can through your support. We once again request your extended support for this cause. With your donations, these poor individuals will be able to have clear sight.
