Friends of Barefoot College International,

Thank you for participating in this project. We have 25 donors helping support our bee-keeper training. Your donations provide needed supplies and training so these women can launch their own businesses and earn money as micro-entrepreneurs.

Our bee-keeping project has grown. We have more than 500 bee-keepers who have collectively sold more than 200kg of honey to supermarkets, shops and resorts, ensuring fair trade prices, industry standard packaging and product sanitation, and a direct supply chain between female beekeepers and sales.

We will continue to elevate women leaders through our ENRICH training and specialized bee keeping program.

Updates and successes from our Zanzibar beekeepers

We're pleased to share highlights from late 2024 and early 2025 in Tanzania and Zanzibar:

We recently visited Moshi to hold a beekeeping re-workshop (a retraining opportunity for our formerly trained women), where every moment from hive maintenance to honey harvesting was buzzing with inspiration. A huge thank you to our amazing facilitators and participants who brought their enthusiasm and passion. Together, we’re building sustainable futures, one bee at a time!

Solar Mama Bi. Sharifa smiles as she picks up her beekeeping equipment (featured in our photos section) to launch her honey production business in Muyuni. Through our program, women gain skills in solar engineering, beekeeping, tailoring, farming, women's health and composting. Together, we’re building a brighter, sustainable future!

Presenting a 500-gram jar of mixed flower honey harvested from our center to Hon. Hemed Suleiman Abdalla, Second Vice President of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar in recognition of his support for sustainable local initiatives.

More Honey, More Income! Empowered mamas turning their beekeeping skills into sweet success and sustainable livelihoods. Celebrating a fruitful harvest of 63 litres of honey from the inspiring women of Tarakea and Mrimbouo villages in the Kilimanjaro region. This achievement highlights the transformative impact of empowering women, enabling them to generate income and build sustainable futures for their communities.

We have started harvesting bee propolis at our center. Propolis is a powerful natural substance made by bees, renowned for its medicinal properties. It has antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory benefits, making it an essential ingredient in natural remedies and skincare.

At our center, we are not just keeping bees; we are protecting the balance of nature. Bees play an integral role in pollinating crops, supporting biodiversity, and sustaining life on Earth. By empowering women beekeepers, we are securing a future where both people and the planet can thrive.
