Theatre that Touched 60 Lives in Sindh

By Azeem Christopher | Project Leader

Under its ongoing commitment to raise awareness on human and women’s rights in vulnerable rural areas, AWARD recently organized a community theatre activity in Sindh under its Disaster Risk Management (DRM) project. The theatre was designed as an interactive platform to sensitize participants on issues such as women’s protection laws, early marriages, and the adverse effects of domestic violence. A total of 60 community members actively participated in the session, engaging with the performers and reflecting on how these challenges impact their daily lives.

The use of theatre proved to be an effective medium for communicating complex issues in a relatable way, allowing participants to connect emotionally and practically with the messages. This activity further reinforced AWARD’s approach of combining education with cultural tools to promote awareness, resilience, and collective action at the grassroots level.

While such initiatives highlight the importance of mobilization, the challenge of transportation continues to limit the scale of outreach. With strong networks in more than 300 villages, AWARD’s ability to expand such impactful awareness activities would be greatly enhanced with the availability of a dedicated vehicle for mobilization and theatre teams. This would allow us to reach more remote and underserved communities, ensuring that voices often left unheard are brought to the forefront. We cannot achieve this alone; we need your support to continue touching lives and spreading awareness where it is needed most.
