Hurricane Melissa, a deadly Category 5 storm, struck Jamaica on October 29, devastating homes, schools, and hospitals across multiple parishes. This project prioritizes building local partnerships and working in collaboration to distribute immediate humanitarian supplies and to repair and rebuild more resilient housing, schools, and livelihoods in the most badly affected areas.
Hurricane Melissa caused catastrophic destruction across Jamaica, cutting power and communications to much of the island, devastating entire communities and isolating those in remote areas. An estimated 13,000+ displaced people are living in temporary shelters. With limited responders and widespread damage, thousands face shortages of food, clean water, and humanitarian supplies. Families have lost their homes, schools, and livelihoods, and full recovery will take years.
All Hands and Hearts is partnering with local organizations who know best about their communities' evolving needs. Together, we will distribute food, water, and essential supplies from Treasure Beach to Black River. As conditions stabilize, our experienced response teams will support community cleanup efforts, debris removal, and early recovery projects, restoring homes, livelihoods, and hope across the most affected parishes.
Our goal is to help families recover and rebuild resilient communities. Immediate relief ensures survival and safety; long-term recovery strengthens local capacity and restores stability. By working hand-in-hand with local partners who know best what recovery looks like for them, we empower communities to rebuild stronger foundations for a future built on progress, resilience, and hope.
