This project will benefit the more than 500 children with cancer in Puerto Rico in the next 2 years, greatly solving transportation problems to their chemotherapies and other treatments. We currently serve 148 children and in one year we want to serve an additional 150, in the second year 202 children to meet the demand for services.
In Puerto Rico, more than 600 children, cancer patients and survivors are of low economic resources and do not have transportation to get their chemotherapies, treatments, follow-up medical appointments or even to get home when they are discharged. In addition, the transportation service is almost nil in the vast majority of towns far from the metropolitan area where the 3 pediatric oncology hospitals are located. We need more resources to supply demand
With the necessary resources, we will be able to acquire another vehicle and personnel to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and be able to supply the demand for this essential service so that children do not lose their treatments.
With the acquisition of a vehicle we will be able to serve 150 children in the first year and the second year we will be able to do the same, impacting 150 more children, reaching the goal of 600 children in less than three years.
