When she was six months pregnant, Clementine knew she needed a new way to make money for her family. In fact, she no longer had the strength to work in the fields as before. However, it is by plowing the fields that many mothers in rural communities earn their living.
Learning the technique of knitting with a machine was a real challenge. This involves several delicate processes, especially when it comes to making complex designs. But trained rural mothers knew this was the opportunity to change their live. They trained tirelessly. "The first sweaters they finished without the help of their trainer remains a memorable moment."
This project aims to address the lack of access to financial resources and opportunities for women, particularly those from marginalized communities. In many regions, women face significant barriers when trying to start or expand their businesses due to limited access to traditional banking systems, lack of collateral, and societal norms that discourage female entrepreneurship.
Many mothers enrolled in the centre have experienced a traumatic situation where they had no hope for their newborns, due to poverty. But learning skills encouraged them to earn a living and showed them they were not alone. "These trainings helped them form friendships with other mothers to support each other."
