Thank you so much for your past donation! We really could not do the important work of helping babies recover from malnutrition without the help of friends like you. I am writing to let you know of another great opportunity for you to help us continue this important work. From Monday, September 21st through Friday, September 25th, GlobalGiving will be offering a one-time 100% match on all new recurring donations up to $200 per donor! Please consider starting a recurring donation during this period. Your donation will help care for and feed malnourished babies like Brandon as well as provide quality nutritional education for parents.
Brandon, who is 18 months old, was referred to us by the health center in his hometown of Escuintla after they had treated him for acute bronchitis and was checked-in to Casa Jackson on September 10th, 2015 with moderate malnutrition.
Brandon’s mother was thrown out of her home at 17 when her parents found out that she was pregnant with him. She then moved in with her boyfriend’s family who, despite their poverty, decided to help her however they could. Brandon’s mother did not finish school and his father never went to school. Brandon's father works as an assistant on the buses in Escuintla and earns Q600 (about $80) per month. This is all the family has to survive on.
Brandon’s mother is very thankful for the help that the project is giving to her son. Thanks to the Casa Jackson Center for Malnourished Infants Brandon is starting the recovery process and receives the help that he needs to grow big and strong. His mother also receives the support she needs with meals, therapy and nutritional education.
With almost 50% of children under 5 in Guatemala suffering from malnutrition Brandon’s story is far too familiar. With your help we can fight malnutrition in Guatemala from both ends through both prevention and treatment.
