This project will provide free psychological sessions to 150 vulnerable people in El Salvador (children, migrants, victims of social violenc In El Salvador and the Mesoamerican region, access to mental health care is becoming increasingly necessary. However, psychological care is becoming more difficult to access for most of the population. This is why Fundacion Catarsis El Salvador is committed to providing specialized, high-quality, and low-cost psychological care for vulnerable individuals.
Access to mental health services in the public sector is very poor, and the hospital budget is insufficient to serve the 3 million Salvadorans who require mental health services. Additionally, the Ministry of Education does not have psychologists in public schools. Across the country, there are only about 80 psychiatrists for 6 million of people
This project will help increase coverage and facilitate access to mental health services for children and women who are victims of violence or living in extreme poverty and who cannot afford the psychological treatment they so desperately need. El Salvador has a long history of violence due to civil war and gang violence, creating trauma in the population that needs to be healed.
The long-term impact will be to improve the quality of life of the people served, which will improve their productivity, general well-being and contribute to family, community and national development.
