Challenge

Many informal settlements around Moshi face serious problems related to poor sanitation, food insecurity, and pollution. Large amounts of household and market waste are dumped in open spaces, creating unhealthy living conditions and environmental damage. In many local markets, vegetables are grown using unsafe water sources, raising concerns about food safety and public health. Although families work hard to support themselves, limited income opportunities and overcrowded conditions.

Solution

Through the "Green Mama Initiative," the organization plans to extend its activities into several additional communities across Moshi by training more women to become environmental and nutrition ambassadors. The composting hubs will collect biodegradable waste from schools, homes, and vegetable markets, transforming it into natural fertilizer for community gardens. This approach will help families access healthier organic fruits and vegetables, provide nutritious meals throughout the week.

Long-Term Impact

The initiative seeks to reduce poverty, hunger, and environmental destruction in underserved communities across Tanzania. By offering practical training, environmental education, and innovative farming methods, the program aims to build a sustainable model that promotes economic independence, responsible environmental management, social empowerment, and climate resilience for future generations.
