Whilst the recent times the story from Zambia has focused very much on the severe drought, failed harvest and its consequences, it is good to hear that people are trying hard to keep going in the face of such adversity.
The picture above is of Bebeto who has just finished his first term at university thanks to a lot of hard work and generous sponsorship. He is one of our former Pizz students. Bebeto’s is a remarkable achievement for a young man from a disadvantaged family – his father died when he was a child, his widowed mother Desteria writes: “Thank you very much for this your team has done for a poor mother like me. You decided to help me carry this load and make things light for me. I am really happy now and my mind is at peace. May God richly bless you. Greetings to you all.” Desteria has for 10 years dedicated herself to working with the orphaned and vulnerable children at Pizz School. An inspirational teacher, she herself was orphaned as a child, but sheer determination got her a qualification through distance-learning!
Water is a hot topic during this drought, and as you can no doubt imagine, there is much excitement at Pizz surrounding the completion of the installation from the borehole of water tank, solar-powered pump, pipes and plumbing to the vegetable garden and new toilet block. (See pictures below)
This is a busy time as the new school year commences next week, with new little children starting, and older ones moving on to secondary schools elsewhere.
Thank you so much for your help in making this happen!
