Challenge

Down syndrome occurs in approximately one out of every 690 births and constitutes the most common cause of intellectual disability. There are 6 million people with Down syndrome in the world. Even though its origins are still unknown, we know that it has nothing to do with nationality, socio-economic background or religion. The risk of having a child with Down syndrome increases with the mother's age.

Solution

The John Langdon Down Foundation offers a specialized program to encourage complete development of people with Down syndrome on an intellectual, physical, social, emotional and spiritual level through the following services: Early intervention, Nursery, Preschool, Special primary education, speech and language therapy, play center, swimming, physical education, music, dance, theatre, lunch service, Mexican School of Down Art, TRES 21 Arte-Cafe chain, Cooking workshop and Down Syndrome Clinic.

Long-Term Impact

The John Langdon Down Foundation will strengthen its educational, medical and psychological programs. Remain at the forefront of comprehensive care for people with Down syndrome and their families. Likewise, it will offer new alternatives of labor integration to its students, promoting self-sustainability.
