Adapting to new life situations brought by the COVID-19 pandemic has not been easy. At Casa sin Fronteras we have continued our service to the community by offering alternatives and a space of peace. Through our Counseling and Dance/Movement Therapy (CODAMO) program and our Better Life program of psychological services and counseling, we have been able to impact the lives of many families in a positive way by providing tools to manage the difficult situations of daily life. During this semester we have been active offering workshops, both virtually and face-to-face. Our workshops are aimed mostly at families with children and we use tools of Counseling, Dance/Movement Therapy, Music Therapy and Art Therapy to help children and adults improve relationships and achieve an optimal level of well-being.
This year we have had two very important new opportunities for our program, as we were invited in August to present CODAMO at the 2nd Puerto Rico Chapter Dance/Movement Therapy Symposium of the American Dance Therapy Association and then in November we were invited to present it at the Convention of Professional Counselors of the Puerto Rican Association of Professional Counseling. Both our counselor, the Lcda. Lariana García, and our Dance/Movement Therapist Hecbel Rodríguez, have filled us with pride by representing Casa sin Fronteras before these prestigious professional organizations, publicizing this innovative and transformative project. Their love for what they do and their commitment to the mental health of our people makes them stand out in their respective fields and shows that partnerships work.
As part of "CODAMO in your school" we have been able to visit different elementary schools carrying out workshops on different themes of personal development for students using the techniques of Artistic-Creative Therapies (movement, music and art). In this semester we have visited schools in the towns of Arecibo and Camuy.
In October we started a new cycle of virtual CODAMO with a group of children and another with a group of mothers. We are very happy with this group of friends that has given themselves the opportunity to discover new strategies to improve their lives.
In conjunction with CODAMO's work, Casa sin Fronteras continues to offer psychological services and individual counseling through the Mejor Vida program. We are already working in person and those people who need it attended virtually.
To celebrate our achievements and thank all the people who with their donations make our work possible, we presented a Facebook Live concert "Casa sin Fronteras canta para ti, Bohemia con Reynaldo Torres Quiles". It was a musical gift for all our friends at Casa sin Fronteras. If you couldn't see it, look it up on our page and enjoy it.
