Since the global pandemic, we have created this network of health volunteers to respond to health emergencies and the needs in their communities. Your support provides training to strengthen health volunteers' ability to respond to first aid emergencies and essential access to medicines through a sustainable community pharmacy program. Communities in rural Honduras have less access to emergency health services, especially during the global pandemic. Remote villagers sometimes forgo seeking medical treatment for things requiring further consultation due to limitations in health knowledge and financial barriers to health access. As the global pandemic continues, rural communities require more support to respond to local health needs and emergencies as many communities in response have become more insular and sustainable.
Training the local network of health volunteers can strengthen the health system and provide community members with more options for local triage responses and coordination. Moreover, by providing a community pharmacy program, we allow community members to have increased access to medicines that they would have otherwise had to travel to nearby cities to acquire.
Increased access to health consultations and better coordination in response to local health emergencies and medical needs can improve health outcomes for rural community members.
