Safe Water for Displaced Kids in Northern, Nigeria

A child should never have to risk their life simply by taking a drink of water. Yet in Ortese, Benue State, this is the heartbreaking reality facing hundreds of children and families every day.

Years of violent conflict have displaced communities, damaged critical infrastructure, and left many families without access to safe drinking water. With few alternatives, parents and children are forced to rely on contaminated streams and stagnant water sources, exposing them to cholera, diarrhea, typhoid, and other preventable waterborne diseases. For children whose lives have already been disrupted by conflict, the lack of clean water adds another layer of suffering—keeping them out of school, weakening their health, and putting their futures at risk.
