In Ortese, the simple act of getting water comes at an enormous cost—especially for children. Each morning, instead of heading to school or playing with friends, many children embark on long, tiring walks to fetch water for their families. Their destination isn’t a clean well or safe tap, but a contaminated stream, where every drop they collect poses a risk to their health.
This daily journey is exhausting, taking precious hours away from learning and childhood fun. The water they bring home may quench thirst, but it also brings waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid, robbing children of their health, their education, and their dreams for the future.
For girls, the burden is even heavier. The responsibility of collecting water often falls on their shoulders, forcing them to miss vital school hours, skip homework, and sacrifice opportunities to simply be children. This cycle traps families in poverty and limits the potential of the next generation.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. Access to clean water is transformative. It means children can spend their days in classrooms, learning and growing. It means girls can remain in school, empowered to pursue their ambitions. It means parents can have peace of mind, knowing their children are safe from the dangers that lurk in contaminated water.
Your support can help make this life-changing difference. By helping to install safe water systems in Ortese, you ensure that every child has access to clean, reliable drinking water—right in their community.
Let’s replace long, dangerous walks with opportunities for learning, play, and growth. Please donate today through GlobalGiving and help every child reclaim their childhood and build a brighter future.
