Every community deserves the opportunity to recover. In Ortese, that recovery is already underway. Families are rebuilding their homes. Farmers are returning to their fields. Children are slowly finding their way back to school after years of conflict and displacement.
But one obstacle continues to threaten that progress: access to safe drinking water. During our recent field assessment, our team heard the same concern from every corner of the community. Parents spoke about children becoming sick after drinking from contaminated streams. Teachers described how preventable illnesses interrupt learning. Community leaders emphasized that without safe water, rebuilding becomes far more difficult.
The recent flooding across Benue State has only intensified these challenges, contaminating already limited water sources and increasing the risks facing vulnerable families.
Yet this story does not have to end in hardship. With your support, we can provide reliable clean water systems, promote healthy hygiene practices, and help protect thousands of children from preventable diseases.
Recovery begins with the basics—and clean water is one of them. Today, you can help turn recovery into lasting resilience. Please support our Safe Water for Displaced Kids in Northern Nigeria project through GlobalGiving. Together, we can help Ortese build a healthier and more hopeful future.
