When violence uproots families, the world often focuses on the immediate crisis of displacement. Yet, long after families begin to return home, less visible but equally urgent challenges persist—especially the need for safe drinking water.
In Ortese, this need is acute. Years of conflict have destroyed essential water infrastructure, while climate change and seasonal flooding continue to contaminate the few remaining water sources. As a result, children and families face daily exposure to preventable diseases simply because clean water is out of reach. The struggle for water not only endangers health but also undermines children’s education and community efforts to rebuild.
This is not an insurmountable challenge. By restoring access to safe, reliable water, we can protect children’s health, enable more consistent school attendance, and help families focus on rebuilding their livelihoods. Clean water is the foundation for moving from mere survival to genuine recovery and long-term resilience.
The people of Ortese have already demonstrated remarkable courage and perseverance. Now, they need committed partners to help turn that resilience into lasting progress.
Your support can be the difference. Please donate through GlobalGiving today. Your generosity will help bring safe water to Ortese, transforming post-conflict recovery into renewed hope and opportunity for children and families who need it most. Together, we can help ensure that the crisis truly ends when the conflict does.
