Safe Water for Displaced Kids in Northern, Nigeria

What good is a water pump when the children who depend on it still have to walk long distances in search of water?

For vulnerable children and displaced families in Ortese, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria, access to safe drinking water remains a daily struggle. Years of violent conflict have displaced families, disrupted livelihoods, and weakened essential community infrastructure. Today, the community's existing water facilities are unable to meet this most basic human need.

During our water-point assessments, we encountered the painful reality of children having to travel long distances to fetch water from contaminated streams because their community lacks a functioning, reliable source of safe drinking water.Imagine a child waking up each morning, not knowing whether the water available to drink will quench their thirst or make them sick.

Imagine a mother who has survived displacement and struggled to rebuild her family's life, yet still cannot provide her children with something as fundamental as safe drinking water.Imagine the hours children lose searching for water when they should be learning in school, playing with friends, and enjoying the childhood they deserve.

These children have already endured so much. Must they also suffer because clean water remains beyond their reach?

At GoGreen, we believe the answer must be NO. 

Through our Safe Water for Displaced Kids in Northern Nigeria project on GlobalGiving, we are working with communities to restore access to safe, reliable, and sustainable drinking water. Our team has visited the affected communities, assessed existing water infrastructure, engaged local stakeholders, and identified critical needs requiring urgent intervention.

We have taken important steps. But assessments alone cannot fill an empty water container. We need resources to translate these efforts into functioning water systems that children and families can depend on.
