Support Educational Spaces for 200 Kids in Iraq

By Nayef Sabri | President

At Sunrise, every child’s journey holds the promise of growth, resilience, and transformation. In Sinjar, where children face immense challenges due to lingering war remnants and the lack of safe recreational spaces, our work goes beyond providing a secure environment. It is about nurturing hope and fostering positive change.

One story stands out among many. A boy in our program initially struggled with social interaction. Sharing toys with others seemed impossible, and his frustration often turned into aggressive behavior, leaving both peers and staff concerned. Instead of isolating him, our instructor saw an opportunity to help him grow.

The instructor devised a strategy to empower him, recognizing his need for support and validation. He was given leadership roles, such as distributing toys and guiding his peers on how to use them. This small yet impactful responsibility made him feel seen and valued, gradually shifting his perspective toward collaboration and empathy.

The transformation didn’t happen overnight, but it was profound. Day by day, he began reacting positively to his friends, laughing and playing with them, and even taking on the role of a young leader who promoted kindness and inclusion among his peers. A month later, he was no longer the boy who avoided sharing but someone who actively encouraged others to play together harmoniously.

This story is a testament to the power of safe spaces and attentive care. It demonstrates how a nurturing environment can foster positive behavior and instill lifelong values of empathy, patience, and love.

With your continued support, we can create more stories like this. Your generosity helps us turn challenges into triumphs and ensure every Sinjar child has a chance to thrive. Together, we are building spaces and shaping futures filled with hope and possibility.
