Dear Esteemed Donor,
Every day in Benue State, young girls and women face threats that rob them of their dignity, future, and fundamental human rights. The stark reality is this: 1 in 5 teenage girls in Nigeria have begun childbearing, and 43% of women aged 20-24 are married before their 18th birthday. These are not just numbers—they represent lives derailed by early marriage, violence, and the harmful silence enforced by stigma.
At GoGreen, we believe no girl should be forced into adulthood before she is ready, and no woman should endure the trauma of gender-based violence (GBV), female genital mutilation (FGM), or the consequences of teenage pregnancy. The data is unyielding: Nigeria harbors 22 million child brides, making it the country with the third highest number globally. Benue State suffers severely from conflict, poverty, and displacement, which magnify the dangers faced by its most vulnerable.
GBV is life-threatening, often leading to long-term health, psychological, and economic consequences. Survivors face not only physical harm but deep psychological scars, lifelong stigma, and often, death. The rates are alarming: 31% of Nigerian women have experienced physical violence since age 15. Many are children, most have no recourse.
But together, we can reverse this trend.
