Your Support-A Lifeline for Survivors

By Elizabeth Elachi | Project Leader

Dear Friend,

In the heart of Benue State, there is a quiet revolution beginning in the lives of women and girls who have survived unimaginable hardship. Take the story of Ngozi, who as a teenager endured the trauma of female genital mutilation (FGM)—an ordeal faced by 14% of Nigerian women aged 15–19. The pain and fear she experienced stayed with her, until she found support through a local peer group funded by caring donors like you. Today, Ngozi is not just a survivor—she is a mentor, using her experience to educate others and prevent the same fate for future generations.

Stories like Ngozi’s are a testament to how empowerment and support can transform individuals and communities. When survivors are given knowledge, skills, and a safe environment to share their voices, the ripple effect touches everyone:

  • Families are strengthened as survivors become advocates for change within their own homes.
  • Communities begin to question harmful traditions and adopt new, healthier practices.
  • Young girls see role models who show that a different, brighter future is possible.

The "Support Sexual Health Rights for Women and Girls" project is designed to multiply these stories of hope. With your help, we will:

  • Train survivors as peer educators, so women like Ngozi can uplift and guide others.
  • Create safe spaces for group dialogue and healing, breaking the isolation that so often traps survivors in silence.
  • Engage community leaders and traditional gatekeepers, fostering open conversations that challenge the cycle of child marriage, violence, and deprivation.
  • Promote girls’ education and autonomy, helping young women reclaim their right to choose their own paths.

When survivors become advocates, communities transform from within. The shame around GBV and harmful practices is replaced by understanding, compassion, and action. Children stay in school longer, early marriages decline, and the health and economic well-being of entire families improve.

You have the power to turn trauma into triumph. By supporting this project, you invest in survivors whose courage inspires lasting community change. Let’s work together to rewrite the stories of Benue State—from pain and oppression to empowerment and hope.

With deepest appreciation,
