Summary

Through My Eyes is working to inspire change and create a shift in the narrative surrounding persons with disabilities in Kenya. One way we intend to achieve this is to build an inclusive play center for disabled kids. This center will hold up to 250 kids and be a warm, welcoming home where the kids will receive personalized care with the intent of improving their personal, social & emotional skills. We are intent in making sure that a child with a disability lives to their full potential.

Challenge

In my country Kenya, a child living with a disability is seen as bad luck or a curse. This means they are locked up, kept away from the rest of the community and the world. This action tends to affect them physically, psychological and socially. Through My Eyes would like to nurture the talents of all brilliant children living with disabilities. We are using storytelling, puppets and play to nurture the full potential of children with disabilities by teaching them social and emotional skills.

Solution

At Through My Eyes, we first empower individuals with the rights skills and tools to understand the different needs of children living with disabilities. These individuals create appropriate activities based on the needs of the children then work together either individually or collectively with the children to impart them with social and emotional skills through that they can use to discover their gifts and talents to reach their fullest potential. Thanks to your donation we can make it happen

Long-Term Impact

Through My Eyes would like to support 250 children living with disabilities to discover their true talents and potential. We envision creating a place which will serve as a safe space and refuge to be their best selves free from societal judgement. At the Play Center, they can use their talents to generate income for themselves, inspire other people and rise out of poverty. The community will also begin to value their children with disabilities and nurture them instead of locking them up.
