Support Sri Lanka is established to provide critically needed food, medicines and other vital supplies to at-risk people in Sri Lanka. Funds donated to Support Sri Lanka will support Aarogya Seva's existing efforts on the ground to distribute aid as quickly as possible. Supplies will be purchased in the US and India as much as possible to get it in the hands of those who need it most as fast as possible.
The economic collapse in Sri Lanka has left millions below the poverty line. Rampant inflation has put basic essentials out of reach for many - while a lack of foreign reserves for imports or even fuel for transport makes many essentials unavailable. A government in disarray undermines coherent central planning or implementation of official assistance programs. Starvation is looming in the mid term, while malnutrition and medical care collapse are already occurring.
Support Sri Lanka will supply food, medical and hygiene support to local partners such as Rotary Club Sri Lanka to provide these basic essentials to as many people as possible and for as long as our donor funds allow.
The long term impact is to mitigate the short term health and nutritional effects on the most vulnerable sectors of population to help people survive the turmoil and avoid permanent effects until the economic situation improves.
