Project Report | Mar 26, 2024
A survivor aged 13 years was defiled by a 25 years old man

By Amanda Kawaisolya | Communications Manager

The survivor, a 13-year-old female, was in the bush collecting firewood with other children who were a bit away from her. She was then approached by the perpetrator, a 25-year-old male, who was grazing goats in the nearby bush. On approaching Ger, she was grabbed by the perpetrator, who tightened her arms, closed her mouth, and both defiled and rapped her.
Reaching home, she reported to the mother who also reported to Katete police station to report the incidence. The police then referred them to Nyaka’s Kambuga Healing Center for support. The case manager welcomed them and provided psychosocial support and counseling; she also assisted the survivor to get tested for HIV, which unfortunately turned out positive, and HCG, which gave negative results. At this point, the survivor was not eligible for PEP because she had tested HIV-positive. However, she was given emergency contraceptive pills to prevent her from getting pregnant. The perpetrator was later arrested and is facing the law.
