NO HUNGER FOOD BANK IMPACT REPORT

By Gbadebo Odularu, Ph.D | The President & CEO

  1. Introduction:
The primary objective of the project "Support 550 Displaced Girl Children Back to School" is to cater to the needs of displaced girl children who had been impacted by conflict, natural disasters, banditry, and other challenging circumstances from the northeast of Nigeria and then relocated to Abuja for safety. The project aimed to provide these girls with two essential pillars for their growth and development: access to nutritious meals and quality education. By addressing these fundamental needs, we aimed to empower these girls to not only overcome their difficult circumstances but also thrive and build a better future for themselves.

  2. Project Overview:

  • Total number of beneficiaries: 550 displaced girls aged between 6 and 16 years.

  • Project Objectives:
    a. Facilitate enrollment of 550 displaced girls into local schools.
    b. Provide necessary educational materials, including textbooks, stationery, and school uniforms.
    c. Offer mentorship and guidance to inspire and motivate the girls.
    d. Provide nutritious meals to support their overall well-being.
    e. Monitor and evaluate the progress of the girls throughout the project duration.

  • Achievements and Impact:

  • Enrollment: We successfully enrolled in total 250 displaced girls into local schools, ensuring their access to formal education.

  • Educational Materials: Each girl received a comprehensive kit containing essential educational materials such as textbooks, notebooks, pens, and school uniforms. This support boosted their confidence and prepared them for academic success.

  • Nutritious Meals: Recognizing the importance of proper nutrition, we provided nutritious meals to the girls on a regular basis. These meals not only fulfilled their dietary needs but also enhanced their concentration, energy levels, and overall well-being.

  • Inspiring Stories:

  • Binta's Story: a 14-year-old girl, had been out of school for two years due to displacement. With our support, she returned to the classroom. Despite facing numerous challenges, Binta's determination and eagerness to learn enabled her to excel academically. The nutritious meals provided sustained her energy and helped her focus on her studies, making her an exceptional student.

  • Bilikisu's Transformation: a 12-year-old girl, had lost hope after being forced to leave her home. Our project not only provided her with the opportunity to continue her education but also ensured she received nutritious meals. This support improved her health and well-being, enabling her to actively participate in school and pursue her dreams.

  • Monitoring and Evaluation: We conducted regular monitoring visits and evaluations to assess the progress of the girls. The feedback received from teachers, mentors, and parents indicated significant improvements in their academic performance, confidence levels, and overall well-being, which can be attributed to the combined impact of education and nutritious meals.

  • Challenges:

  • Limited Resources: Despite our best efforts, resource constraints posed challenges in providing additional educational support, such as extracurricular activities and specialized training.

  • Socio-economic Barriers: Some girls faced difficulties attending school regularly due to financial constraints, household responsibilities, and societal pressures. We addressed these barriers through community engagement and awareness campaigns.

  • Conclusion:
Through the project "Support 550 Displaced Girls Back to School," we successfully enabled 250 displaced girls to access education, provided them with essential educational materials, and offered mentorship and guidance. Additionally, the provision of nutritious meals and the assistance from the No Hunger Food Bank ensured their overall well-being and reduced food insecurity.

We express our gratitude to all the donors, partners, and volunteers who supported this project and made a difference in the lives of these girls. Together, we have taken a step towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society.

As we move forward, we remain committed to expanding our efforts, addressing challenges, and supporting more displaced girls, ensuring that education, nutrition, and empowerment go hand in hand to create a brighter future.
