Every month we celebrate the seniors that have birthdays that month. We bring cake, ice cream, snacks and presents. We have music and everyone sings and dances. One of the ladies said "you have no idea how happy I am this is very special, no one ever calls me for my birthday". Thank you. You can see the happines in thier eyes, you can feel the sadness too. We are comited to soften this sadness and see more smiles. Your dodnation will help reach out to more seniors. Hlep us help them.
Transiciones de Vida has designed a program to visit seniors over 60 years who are alone and do not receive visits. A million people over 60 often or always feel alone. The situation of older adults without the company of a relative is a problem that is experienced throughout Puerto Rico. As we look, this population is growing dramatically. Even without the corona-virus, loneliness, and isolation of the elderly experience is a real problem. Many face numerous and serious situations.
Our project will provide the elderly population who are lonely: with visits, conferences, coaching, mentoring and other services as needed. Our conferences will focus on resilience and stress. In coaching we will use the GROW Model. We will also develop a leadership group of seniors who do receive visits and are willing to volunteer as leaders and provide workshops and activities. This group will be trained to sustain the program when we leave to work with others. We will follow up.
This project will prepare this community to redesign and reawaken the concept of aging. Our goal is to lower the amount of stress by teaching what is stress and how can we manage it. We will also focus on resilience especially the concept of bouncing back. We will evaluate the needs on a regular basis. We will provide visits, teach the concepts of resilience and stress, provide coaching, monthly workshops and develop leaders who will continue take over the project, and we will follow up.
