Leprosy still affects vulnerable people in Nigeria, yet many patients delay treatment due to poverty, stigma, and limited access to care. This project will organize a community health program in Abuja to support people living with leprosy. Participants will receive medical consultation, treatment support, hygiene supplies, and health guidance. The program will also raise public awareness to reduce stigma and encourage early treatment.
Leprosy remains a public health challenge in several countries. According to the World Health Organization, thousands of new cases are reported worldwide each year. In Nigeria many people affected by leprosy face stigma and delayed diagnosis. Lack of access to early treatment can lead to disability and long term health complications.
The project will organize a community health program where people living with leprosy can receive medical consultation and treatment support. Health workers will provide guidance on treatment adherence and hygiene practices that help prevent complications. The program will also include community education sessions to reduce stigma and encourage early diagnosis.
Access to treatment and public education can improve the lives of people living with leprosy. Early diagnosis and regular treatment can prevent disability and long term complications. Community awareness can reduce stigma and encourage more people to seek care early, helping reduce the burden of leprosy in affected communities.
