Many young women in Sri Lanka enter university but struggle to continue due to financial hardship. Rising costs for transport, accommodation, learning materials, digital access, and living expenses push many female undergraduates to drop out. This project provides financial aid, academic support, and mentorship to help underprivileged university students complete their degrees, secure stable careers, and break cycles of poverty and gender inequality.
Although more women enroll in university in Sri Lanka, many struggle to complete their degrees. Female undergraduates from low-income and rural communities face rising transport and boarding costs, academic expenses, digital access gaps, and family financial pressure. Gender expectations further limit opportunities. As a result, many talented young women suspend or abandon their studies, turning higher education into an unfinished dream.
This project will support economically vulnerable female university students by providing: Semester-based education grants Transport and accommodation support Learning materials and academic supplies Digital access support (data, devices when needed) Mentorship and career guidance Support will be provided based on financial need assessments and academic commitment. This is not charity. It is strategic investment in human capital.
When a woman completes her university degree: Household income increases Future generations are more likely to pursue education Economic resilience improves Gender inequality decreases Community leadership expands Educated women contribute directly to workforce participation, social development, and national growth. This project aims to create a network of university-educated women who become professionals, role models, and changemakers in Sri Lanka.
