Delivering Lifesaving Healthcare

By Angyikai Lizzette | project leader

The activities of the Remote Communities Health Promotion Project, funded by the GlobalGiving crowd-funding platform, have continued to provide essential primary healthcare services to vulnerable populations in Kitta. Community Health Workers (CHWs) have been engaged in delivering healthcare services, including: Treatment of uncomplicated malaria and diarrhea, Referrals for complicated cases’ Screening children under 5 years old for malnutrition, Referring high-risk pregnant women to health facilities for antenatal care, Distribution of maternal kits and health sensitization sessions, Treatment for minor skin infections and distribution of Ferrous Folate to pregnant women.

During the reporting period, most families in the remote community lacked access to basic malaria treatment, relying instead on traditional methods. Thanks to the funding from GlobalGiving, these communities have benefited from medical attention. A notable case highlighted the project's impact. A 2-year-old girl, Isabella, was diagnosed with severe malaria and received timely treatment and a referral to the Ekondo Titi District Hospital. Her successful recovery was attributed to the life-saving assistance provided through the project.

The main challenge encountered during the reporting period was poor communication with CHWs due to faulty network connections.

Moving forward, the project plans to continue providing healthcare services to vulnerable individuals, conduct health promotion sensitization, Screen for severe acute malnutrition, ensure proper compensation for CHWs.The project's efforts have demonstrated the critical need for healthcare services in remote communities and the positive impact that can be achieved through targeted interventions.
