Across Nigeria, many women endure domestic violence, emotional abuse, and economic hardship. This project by Equitable Medicaid and Clinical Research will provide counseling, legal support, vocational training, and temporary housing for survivors of violence. By helping women rebuild confidence, learn new skills, and access justice, the project will give them the tools to start new, independent lives free from fear and abuse.
Domestic and gender-based violence continues to rise across Nigeria. Many women suffer in silence, unable to leave abusive homes because they lack money, shelter, or support. Some are forced to stay with their abusers for survival. Legal and counseling services are often unavailable, especially in rural areas. Without intervention, women remain trapped in cycles of violence, poverty, and emotional trauma.
This project will provide survivors with temporary housing, legal guidance, and trauma counseling. Women will learn income-generating skills such as tailoring, catering, and small business management to become financially independent. Community workshops will raise awareness about women's rights and safe reporting channels. Each survivor will receive the care, protection, and training needed to rebuild her life with dignity.
The project will help women recover emotionally, gain financial independence, and break free from cycles of abuse. Survivors will rebuild self-worth and stability, serving as role models for others. As more women become self-reliant, violence in homes and communities will decline. The project will create safer spaces, stronger families, and a society that values and protects women's lives and rights.
