This project, whereby we will support the production of sumac plant, which has special gastronomic value for the region and value as a raw material, on idle agricultural areas with women's labor, we aim to provide women with income and information about agricultural production. Where we support the economic empowerment of women, we also support social cohesion, trying to remove the obstacles that prevent living together in peace and children from attending school.
About 12% of the women who fled the Syrian civil war and took refuge in Turkey live in Hatay that is a city on Turkey's border with Syria. As Support to Life, we carry out projects in Hatay to ensure women can be included in the economy and have access to a sustainable source of income. In these efforts where we support the economic empowerment of women, we also support social cohesion, trying to remove the obstacles that prevent living together in peace and children from attending school.
Public institutions will support the SUMAC Project with allocation of idle, unused arable land. Women in need will be determined to cultivate sumac on the allocated land. Such women will be given training support in the fields of sumac cultivation, marketing, etc. Within the scope of the project, women will be provided with income through sumac cultivation and the resulting economic contribution will also support the children in the family to go to school.
The Project that aims to create change through the empowerment of women, also targets raising the income generated by adults in the family. Thus, children would be prevented from working informally and have opportunities to return to education. When women have equal rights, opportunities and support systems, their families and communities can prosper.
