Are passed three years from how much Marina has proposed to support ten disabled children met during the medical visits to people affected by AIDS in the villages of the district of Mangochi with the volunteers of the group Tiyende Pamodzi.
But when we have decided to start the project “Let’s walk together”, we could not imagine what would have happened later: day after day the number of children that asked support is drastically increased and from the first visits in huts with ten children, today the physiotherapist Gift holds rehabilitation’s sessions in a gym equipped with a fixed wooden ladder, a handrail, big balls, a swing and numerous mattresses to maintain the balance and to correctly develop the exercises. We have succeeded besides in giving wheelchairs and other walking aids that have changed the life of many children.
But the most exciting surprise has been the local community ‘s answer: beginning from Fatima, many mothers, that have followed the program of rehabilitation of her children hospitalized by the to the Center Feed the Children of Blantyre, in solidarity has begun to show how much learned to the other women in the village.
The word-of-mouth has had an extraordinary effect: today 21 adults and 246 children are involved in the project tand participate in the sessions of physiotherapy. If before the disability was hidden and considered motive for shame, now is recognized by the community and mothers with disabled children share the difficulties, reciprocally helping and exchanging suggestions to address this fragility.
Thanks to your support we can say with great satisfaction to have reached our objective and to be able to hold concluded the project: Lucy, Patuma, Dorine, Cliff are alone some of many children that have improved their condition of life, going out of the obscurity of huts and finding again the smile and the hope for future. We are certain that Marina, Gift and group Tiyende Pamodzi will bring forth their jewel help with the passion and the determination that countersign them and they will keep on holding adjourned us on the progress and on possible necessities of the villages.
A thanks of heart to all of you that you have believed in this project and that you have contributed to color the life of many disabled children in Malawi.
