Dear Friends,
with great joy I wish to share my experience of the trip I experienced in Malawi. As Aleimar's project manager, I had the opportunity to accompany a group of volunteers and monitor the projects implemented by our local partner: Tiyende Pamodzi Group (which means “Let’s walk together”).
We had the privilege of witnessing the extraordinary work that this Community Based Organization does thanks to the support of so many Malawian volunteers: each week volunteers leave their work in the fields to accompany trained staff, visit families with children with disabilities in the villages and distribute food and medicine. Volunteers also perform the vital task of training caregivers with respect to physiotherapy to be carried out with these children.
We had the great honor of attending the 10-year celebration of the disability program developed by Tiyende Pamodzi. It was a time of joy, sharing, singing and dancing!
During the monitoring trip of November, we visited many families in the villages, understanding their housing situation and the difficulties they face every day. In addition, we monitored the activities in physiotherapy centers: mothers leave at dawn with their children with disabilities on their backs and walk for hours in order to participate.
During our visits we distributed bags of corn to the villages involved in the project: this good is essential for cooking Likuni Phala, a protein food to be fed to malnourished children with disabilities.
Thanks to your support we have delivered the first bags, but we want to ensure an annual supply to combat growing child malnutrition. A 50 kg bag of corn costs $27 (€25) in Malawi. very help, big or small, can make a difference!
Thank you!
