Challenge

The lockdown, in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, though partially lifted in some parts of the country has brought untold hardship and hunger to many Nigerians especially the people of Awarra Court Area in Ohaji/Egbema of Imo State. Many have died out of hunger and there is increase in crime. The lockdown has prevented many of them who are mostly farmers to go to farm and those who have farm products cannot sell. This has caused great hunger in the area and needs urgent support this period.

Solution

By identifying 500 extreme poor families and providing them with food stuffs, many lives will be saved and crime will be reduced in area. Ohaji/Egbema are mainly farmers and whatever they produce will be transported to others parts of the country and they will earn money to provide for themselves. But as a result of the lockdown, many of them are not able to go to farm and others who have goods are not able to transport their goods to other locations to sell. This has left the area in hunger

Long-Term Impact

As we mentioned earlier, as a result of the hunger in the area, many of the youths in the area have indulged themselves in crime related activities to survive. An average family in the area has about five children and about three of them are youth, so providing foodstuffs to 500 household implies saving 1500 youth from indulging in crime. Many of the youth involve in crime such as pipeline vandalization which impacts negatively on the country's economy and cause climate change.
