To support Afghan evacuees and people seeking asylum with their essential needs in the UK. There are more than 700 Afghan evacuees and a similar number of people seeking asylum (from other countries) living temporarily in hotels in Kensington and Chelsea. While the Home Office is providing food and shelter, many things needed to create dignified living conditions are absent or in short supply. This project is to raise funds to provide personal clothing to 320 Afghan women.
There are more than 700 Afghan evacuees and a similar number of people seeking asylum (from other countries) living temporarily in hotels in Kensington and Chelsea. While the Home Office is providing food and shelter, many things needed to create dignified living conditions are absent or in short supply.
IAHV UK, working with other partner organisations at the grassroots level, has identified about 320 women whose basic clothing needs are unmet. The majority of these women had to flee their homes with whatever they could carry with them. This campaign is to raise funds for clothing and other essentials for evacuees and asylum seekers. Our intention is to support dignified living conditions for them, whether their next step is permanent housing or the resolution of their asylum applications.
This is the first of many interventions needed to create dignified living conditions for evacuees and asylum seekers. In addition to raising funds for the immediate need of personal clothing items, we are also looking into other areas such as providing legal support for asylum applications, helping children with their educational needs, and conducting workshops and seminars for mental health and resilience. The desired long-term impact is to create dignified living conditions.
